The Difference Between Bulky Cycle & Towels Cycle on GE Front Load Washers
With many of the new front load washers that are out there you will notice that there are preset cycles on the dial, and some of them seem to overlap. Here at Bill & Rod’s Appliance we want to make sure that you can use your GE front load washer to its fullest. Today we are looking at the Bulky and Towels cycles as they really should be the same thing, right? There is a difference, and we are here to show you!
What should be washed in each cycle?
Towels Cycle: In the towel cycle you will want to stick to towels, sheets, pillowcases, wash cloths and dish rags. The easy way to think of this is that these items can be large, they are easier to manage.
Bulky Cycle: In the bulky/bedding cycle you will want to load large coats, bedspreads, mattress covers, sleeping bags, and similarly sized items. The easy way to think of this is that they items can be difficult to manage and typically are an arm full when loading.
What do the wash cycles look like?
Overall, the preset washing options look very similar. The presets are normal soil, warm water temperature, with a high-speed spin. Why this work for both is that the warm water is great for breaking down stains, and we have another post about water temperature that can be checked out too. The spin speed at high allows for more water to be drawn out for less drying time, saving energy and money in the long run.
The difference comes with the actual wash action. The length of rotations one way or another will allow the bulky/bedding cycle to unwrap most of its tangles. The longer or larger the cloth the more likely it will get wrapped up in the wash cycle if used on another setting. This will diminish the cleanability of the cycle settings.
What can be added to each cycle?
On the GE front load washers, you can put additional options on the wash cycle to enhance the cleaning experience. The options that are available are prewash/autosoak, power steam, time saver, extra rinse, Tumble Care or 1 Step Wash + Dry. Bill & Rod’s Appliance recommends that if you are not able to get to your wash right as it finishes that you activate Tumble Care. This will tumble the fabrics and blow air into the tub to help slow smells from developing in the clothing or washer. Once you have finished washing for the day Bill & Rod’s Appliance also recommends that you run the “UltraFresh Vent” to dry out the tub, door gasket, and pump to continue to fight smells from mildew and bacteria.
