Personal Use of the Maytag Commercial Top Load Laundry
Hey there, this is Joe Legato, Owner of Bill & Rod’s Appliance, and I want to talk about my personal experience with the Maytag commercial top load laundry pair MVWP575GW and the MGDP575GW. For the last week my family has been using these units at my in laws house while we were visiting. It is quite a different set up from what we have at home currently. Here is what I found.
Type of laundry we were doing:
The type of laundry that we were doing was mostly our standard clothing. We have 3 kids under 10 years of age and they play hard when we get outside. We had grass stains and food stains, me included, on many of the items that were washed.
Loading of the washer:
Being in the appliance business for as long as I have been I am very aware of how to load the washer and perform the act of washing clothes. With top load laundry I never load more than ¾ of the way full with clothing. More than that will overload the washer and efficiency will drop. Clothing items were separated by colors or whites and then by material type, careful not to wash towels with t-shirts and the like.
Cycle operations:
This was trial and error for me to find a cycle that I liked. At home we have a frontload washer and there are many options to choose from to modify the cycle to fit the staining of the clothes. With these Maytag Commercial Grade models there are far less options. Ultimately, I chose the PowerWash cycle, on warm water, with the option of presoaking and extra rinse for our clothing.
The dryer was fairly straight forward with loading. Same as I do with my laundry at home, I take each individual piece out and give it a quick shake before tossing in the dryer. This ensures less tangling and things not to be rolled up together prior to going in the dryer. I have found that this also reduces wrinkles from being firmly pressed in. When I go to iron or steam the wrinkles release more quickly.
Personal thoughts on the Maytag Commercial laundry set:
Overall, the Maytag Commercial top load laundry was not bad, especially if you are used to washing with a top load set. However, I did find that the stains that I would normally be able to get out of our clothing were not completely removed. Another bother was that I had to run a second drain and spin cycle after the load had finished to get excessive water out of the clothing. Even after that it was still more wet than I would have liked to put it into the dryer with. Once the clothing went through the dryer there were a few items that had to be put through a second time, jeans and sweaters, to be sufficiently dry. At first, I thought it was the lint filter but that was clear and the external exhaust blew efficiently. For me, this laundry set was not a great fit. The amount of laundry we do and the type of stains we get seem better suited for a front load laundry set. If you are not doing our type of laundry or have a smaller family, this may be a pretty good set for you. They ran quietly and come with a 5 year warranty from the manufacturer.
If you would like more information on these units or others we would love for a chance to help you make the best decision for your family.
